What is affordable housing? Affordable housing in the San Francisco Bay Area exists?

Housing is generally considered “affordable” when it costs less than 30% of a household’s income. For example, if a family earns $3,000 per month, their rent or mortgage plus utility bills must be less than $900 per month to be considered “affordable.”
