Why This Matters
Oakland’s Chinatown is a vibrant and culturally rich neighborhood, but it faces significant transit challenges. With high rates of pedestrian and bicycle collisions and one of Oakland’s most transit-dependent populations, the need for change is urgent. The Complete Streets Plan will address these challenges by transforming high-risk corridors like 8th, 9th, Webster, Harrison, and 10th Streets with improvements such as:
· Wider sidewalks
· Better pedestrian lighting
· Safer crossings
These upgrades aim to reduce risks and enhance accessibility for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
Your Feedback Shapes This Vision
This plan is community-driven, reflecting input from workshops, surveys, and a dedicated Technical Advisory Committee. Now, your participation in the survey will further shape this transformative initiative. Together, we can design streets where everyone feels safe, whether they’re walking, biking, driving, or taking transit.
What Is a Complete Street?
Complete Streets are designed to serve everyone, providing safe, accessible spaces that encourage diverse and sustainable transportation options. For Chinatown, this means improved connections to local businesses, cultural landmarks, and essential services.
Thank you for your commitment to making Chinatown a safer, more inclusive space for all. Together, we’re building a connected and equitable future.
