Congressman John Garamendi Secures $1.6MM in Federal Funding for Giant Road Apartments Rehabilitation Project in Contra Costa County
The East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC) thanks Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA08) for bringing $1,666,279 to support the rehabilitation of Giant Road Apartments in San Pablo, California.
Giant Road Apartments provides 86 units of affordable multi-family permanent rental housing to extremely low- and low-income families and individuals with initial incomes between 30% – 60% of Contra Costa County Area Median Income (AMI). Home to a YMCA childcare center, Giant Road Apartments also includes 12 supportive housing units reserved for homeless households with at least one disabled member and at least one minor.
“We truly appreciate Congressman Garamendi for supporting what many would consider a ‘boring’ capital project,” comments Capri Roth, Executive Vice President of Real Estate Development at EBALDC. “But it is these types of projects that support the long-term health of affordable housing that has near and long-term impacts on resident and community health, and keep long-time residents in their homes.”
“I am pleased to have secured much-needed federal funding for local projects like the Giant Road Apartments Rehabilitation Project. This project will ensure that the residents of California’s Eighth Congressional District have access to affordable housing and support services so they can thrive,” said Congressman Garamendi (D-CA08).
To start the Summer of 2024, the Giant Road Rehabilitation Project will include upgrades for waterproofing, accessibility, and energy efficiency.
“As an Eighth Congressional District resident and Board Member of EBALDC, I appreciate that Congressman Garamendi shares the same values as I,” comments Agnes Ubalde, “and supports not just affordable housing, but food access, social services, public transportation, and improved walkability of our streets.”
Lina Sheth, EBALDC’s Interim CEO, remarks “I also want to thank San Pablo City Manager Matt Rodriguez, Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia, YMCA of the East Bay President and CEO Fran Gallati, Giant Road Apartment resident Latonya Thomas, and our Property Manager Cristina Bowers for their support in our request to Congressman Garamendi. We know we can’t do this important work without the partnerships in our neighborhoods.”
