EBALDC To Open New Office in San Pablo Avenue Corridor
On October 8, EBALDC begins a new chapter in our 38-year history. We’re combining our Asian Resource Center and Preservation Park offices into one main office, located at 1825 San Pablo Avenue in Oakland. This is the first new address for our organization since a group of young college students developed the Asian Resource Center and opened the EBALDC office there in 1981.
The new office anchors our Healthy Neighborhoods work along the San Pablo Avenue Corridor. We continue to build momentum along the corridor, from downtown Oakland to Emeryville, with four mixed-use buildings: 1825, the San Pablo Hotel, The California Hotel and Avalon Senior Housing. A fifth property, at West Grand and Brush, is in development. We’re working with our residents and neighbors to address priority issues in the neighborhood, including public safety, transportation, green spaces and healthy food access. This fall, we will launch a Community Economic Development Strategy to support small, local businesses that wish to locate in our commercial spaces along the corridor.
Collaboration is key to our Healthy Neighborhoods work. The open design, multiple meeting spaces, central Collaboration Lab and community conference room are designed to spur conversation and innovation among EBALDC staff, partners and community members. In addition to our second-story offices, our new building features 7,500 square feet of ground floor space for neighborhood-serving businesses and organizations.
EBALDC will continue to have a strong presence in Chinatown. We will maintain an office at the ARC and our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program will continue to provide free tax preparation on the ground floor. Our move provides much-needed expansion space for our nonprofit tenants at the ARC, including Asian Health Services and Asian Community Mental Health.
Stay tuned for updates as we settle into our new home!
