Klein Lieu is an advocate who leverages technology to organize queer and Asian Pacific Islander communities to build collective bargaining power. He was born and raised in Oakland’s Chinatown near his family’s hair salon, just right across the street from EBALDC’s Asian Resource Center. Klein currently works for Affirm Inc as a senior software engineer, where he co-leads the Asian Heritage Alliance, Affirm’s Asian Pacific Islander employee resource group. Prior to that, he was the chair of Mixtape, Pandora’s resource group for employees of color. Klein previously served on the Oakland Unified School District Board of Education committee overseeing the E12th parcel at Lake Merritt. Previously, he was also elected as a student senator at UC Berkeley, where he received his BA in Cognitive Science.
