Oakland, CA
East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC) is thrilled for the official ribbon cutting of our newest affordable housing project in collaboration with Abode, Ms. Margaret Gordon West Port in West Oakland!
Last week we celebrated with our partners the official ribbon cutting of Ms. Margaret Gordon Westport!
We were honored to have Mayor Barbara Lee, Ms. Margaret Gordon, EBALDC Board Treasurer David Peters, Abode’s CEO Vivian Wan, Supervisor Nikki Fortunato Bas, Director Patricia Wells, Oakland Housing Authority, Deputy Director Jennifer Seeger, CA Department of Housing & Community Development, and Director Katherine Butler, CA Department of Toxic Substances Control speak about the impact of this affordable housing community and collaborative efforts it takes to make projects like this happen.
In her speech, Mayor Lee shared “I believe that housing is a basic human right. And Abode and EBALDC and all [of the partners] are really exemplifying that here, right here in the beautiful city of Oakland.”
Thank you to our project partners at Abode Housing for helping us bring this project to fruition!
Janelle Chan, CEO of EBALDC shared, “In addition to low-income families, I’m so proud that Ms. Margaret Gordon West Port is also able to be home to our neighbors who were once unhoused. This development was part of a larger vision for a revitalized San Pablo corridor, and I know it will take continued partnerships for us to realize what the neighbors, and all of us in Oakland deserve: a safe, vibrant place to call home.”
This affordable housing community has 58 units for individuals and families with 50% reserved for permanent supportive housing with on-site services provided by Abode Services.
“MGWP will add 58 units of much-needed affordable housing in West Oakland, providing homes to those in need and strengthening the East Bay community,” said Vivian Wan, CEO of Abode and its family of agencies. “The solution to homelessness is a home – which is one of many reasons why we’re thrilled to celebrate this new housing site with EBALDC and our other community partners.”
Thank you to our many partners who have helped us create 58 new homes in West Oakland, including Measure U Funding from the City of Oakland and $7.2 M in Measure A1 funding from Alameda County Housing and Community Development! The project is further supported by over $40 MM in funds from three California Department of Housing & Community Development programs – including the California Housing Accelerator. The development also received critical funding through the California Department of Toxic Substances Control Equitable Revitalization Grant Program and Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco Affordable Housing Program. The Ms. Margaret Gordon WestPort community has ongoing rental assistance through 28 Section 8 Project-Based Vouchers, through the Oakland Housing Authority.
