Richard Quach, EBALDC 48th Annual Gala Sponsor Spotlight
Richard Quach, California Hotel Cornerstone Gala Sponsor
We are pleased to feature Richard Quach, who has come in as an individual Gala Sponsor at the California Hotel Cornerstone Level. At the 48th Annual Gala, he spoke about the “strength, pride, and resilience” at EBALDC that moved him to so generously support the organization. Richard has been associated with EBALDC for over 14 years—first, as a member of EBALDC staff in the Real Estate Development department and now as an EBALDC board member. Richard’s sponsorship was supported in part by a company match from his employer, Sony PlayStation.
Lina Sheth, EBALDC’s Interim CEO comments, “Richard’s desire to give back to the community is inspiring and is indicative of how we see our work to not only provide housing but the essential supports for long-term community and resident stability and growth. EBALDC is grateful for Richard’s commitment to Oakland and to our work here, expressed in his serving on the Board and in his financial support for all that we do.”
Below is a Q & A with Richard:
What brought you into the EBALDC family?
I first heard about EBALDC while growing up in Oakland Chinatown. My parents’ friends would tell us about how they “won the lottery” by finding housing in EBALDC’s properties. As I grew up and found my passion in community development, the non-profits I worked for told me “EBALDC always has the best projects.” When I graduated from college, EBALDC was high on my list of places to work. I was lucky enough to join the Real Estate Development team and have felt like a part of the family ever since.
What about EBALDC’s work most excites you?
EBALDC really gets deep into communities and invests in the overall health of neighborhoods. We don’t just provide housing; we also provide financial education, social services, and economic development opportunities for the neighborhood. It’s this comprehensive approach that has made EBALDC an anchor in our communities.
How does your company’s vision align with EBALDC’s vision of an “East Bay where everyone has a place to call home and the resources to thrive?”
My company, Sony, is very invested in the education and development of our youth. Resources like safe and stable housing, social services, and community are foundational to developing creativity and cultivating inspiration. By investing in our youth, we are building a better and brighter future for ourselves, our elders, and future generations to thrive and play.
How does EBALDC’s work relate to your work and the transformation you’d like to see in the world?
EBALDC does amazing and important work. We not only help develop communities, but we also provide resources for long-term positive change. We partner directly with community members to hear what is needed and we do as much as we can to support them. I am so proud to be a part of EBALDC.
