EBALDC’s 2020 – 2021 Impact Report

Dear Friends, We are proud to present the East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation’s 2020 – 2021 Impact Report – in a new, dynamic online format. The year 2020 was extremely traumatic for our community, our country, and the world as we faced multiple crises – an attempted insurrection that shook our belief in a shared institutional democracy; the continuing impacts of a pandemic caused by the COVID-19 virus; a racial reckoning – sparked by the murder of George Floyd and so many other Black Americans under the color of law; and... It Takes A Village

Dear Friends, This Monday, August 10 is the first day of school for Oakland Unified School District students. For over 6 months now, school administrators, educators, parents, and caregivers have been struggling with how to balance our children’s need for quality education and socialization with the risks of COVID-19. For low-income, immigrant, and other underserved communities, these decisions are further exacerbated by the lack of access to technology, healthcare, food, and other resources, as well as language barriers. At EBALDC, we understand that providing quality affordable housing is just a start. Programs... Read more

We keep each other safe and healthy

Dear Friends, Out of respect for our neighbors, please wear a mask. It’s been over 110 days since Alameda County Public Health Officials ordered the Bay Area to shelter-in-place. With warmer weather, a holiday weekend coming up, and some businesses starting to reopen, many of us are eager to return to some semblance of normal. However, the pandemic is not over. In fact, the numbers in California are growing rapidly. The most devastating effects of the pandemic are on the low-income communities of color that we serve– Many are hourly workers for essential businesses that we... Read more

“Dear Friends” from EBALDC CEO

Dear Friends, As we near the end of our 4th week of Sheltering-in-Place in the Bay Area, I want to take a moment to shout-out to EBALDC’s essential workers.  Our on-site Property Management teams, and Resident, Youth and Financial Services teams, are on the front lines, and even more essential during these challenging times.   With 30 properties, our Property Management team has been hard at work to ensure that our residents live in a healthy and supportive environment: Two properties have 24-hour front desk clerks.  They have been critical to supporting... We are healthier and stronger together

Dear Friends, Since my last communications with you, much has changed. The shelter-at-home order has been extended to May 3. Schools continue to be closed. Congress passed the historic $2.2 trillion COVID-19 aid package (The CARES Act). Governor Gavin Newsom issued state-wide authority for municipalities to place moratoriums on evictions, and the Oakland City Council passed an Ordinance to implement the moratorium. And amidst all of this, hate crimes against Asian Americans due to the COVID-19 pandemic continue to rise. Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) The CARES... Read more

EBALDC Statement on Discrimination and Hate Crimes

The East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC) works with and for all the diverse populations of the East Bay to build healthy, vibrant and safe neighborhoods through community development.  We are disturbed by reports of discrimination and hate crimes towards Asian and Asian American populations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. As we have consistently stated to the communities we serve, there is no racial, ethnic, or cultural basis for the disease. Xenophobia has no place in this important work. Indeed, xenophobia only inhibits our ability to ensure our... Read more

UPDATED EBALDC Statement on the Coronavirus 3-12-20

We are in a rapidly changing environment in the Bay Area in terms of coronavirus (COVID-19). In light of increases in the number of community transmission cases, and updated recommendations from the Alameda County Public Health Departments and the Center for Disease Control, EBALDC is instituting the following changes to our regular business operations at all of our properties and service locations effective immediately (and to be re-evaluated in 30 days): Cancellation of community/resident events; Closure of community rooms in residential buildings and conference rooms in commercial buildings; We will continue...
