Healthy Neighborhoods Start with You!

Imagine an Oakland and an East Bay where every neighborhood has a safe and affordable range of homes, and provides opportunities that enable people to live long, healthy lives, regardless of income or ethnic background. This is our vision, and we need your support.

Everybody can be great. Because anybody can serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
-Martin Luther King, Jr.

For us to truly realize our mission, the support of volunteers and interns are crucial.  We will list volunteer opportunities as they come up, but feel free to reach out to Volunteer@ebaldc.org if you have any questions.

Ongoing volunteer opportunities include:

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Volunteers
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers free tax help to people who generally make $60,000 or less.  We will train you to become an IRS-certified volunteer so that you can provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.

EBALDC operates one the largest sites in Oakland, serving more than 10,000 individuals, and securing more than $14 million in federal and state refunds to the community since 2003.

Resident Services
We run Resident Services programs at 31 sites, mostly in Oakland’s hardest to serve neighborhoods.  We are always looking for volunteers to spend time with seniors, help students with homework after school, teach English to people with limited English proficiency, and provide digital education in our computer labs.

Youth Programs
We welcome volunteers with a passion for working with Oakland youth to support our Lion’s Pride programs.  Teach financial skills in Oakland schools, support our walking school buses, or work in our afterschool and summer program classrooms at Lion Creek Crossings.
