45 Stories for 45 Years

Over the last year, under COVID, EBALDC’s Resident Leadership Council has put together 100 care packages for our houseless neighbors.

I think back on when our RLC member Shirley Chung suggested this idea, how the program has grown, and how during these times, the packages are even more important. I remember we had many meetings discussing the facts and myths of homelessness and then voted to use our own funds to start the program.

With each care package, we plan the contents, solicit donations, assemble them, and finally, distribute them. During the COVID pandemic, we took extra precautions, but continued the program because we knew it was important. Shirley had told us that “This will be a humbling experience for us” and it has been. But it has also empowered us to be better neighbors. Homelessness and the Bay Area housing crisis continues to be a focus of the entire Resident Leadership Council.

As EBALDC marks our 45th anniversary, we will be gathering more stories like this one from our friends, family, community members, partners and more stakeholders that have made our impact possible. We would be honored for you to join us:
