Aliyah Muhammad – Paying it Forward

January 2023

Meet Aliyah Muhammad, Resident & Volunteer

My name is Aliyah Muhammad, and I am an 18-year-old resident of Lion Creek Crossings. I want to be someone who gives back to the community. I am doing that now by helping out with EBALDC’s monthly youth events and by participating in our Teen Book Club – but I would love to do more for sure.

I took the EBALDC youth courses and they helped shape me into the person I want to be. The community was very loving and welcoming. I received a lot of encouragement from program peers and the program mentors at EBALDC. They pushed me hard to follow what I was most passionate about.

Ever since I was little, my big dream was to go to an art college. The growth and development that I experienced through my EBALDC helped to make my dream come true last spring when I attended the Academy of Art College University in San Francisco. I had so much fun learning different techniques and mediums – things I didn’t know when I was teaching myself to draw manga and anime. And, this coming spring, I am signed up to pursue my other passion – medical school. I’ve pulled resources together to get into the nursing assistant program at Merritt College.

I now volunteer and work at the afterschool program at Lion Creek Crossings to help the younger kids, because of the experience that I had with the EBALDC youth program team there. I would like to give others that same experience – to teach the future generation.
