EBALDC Announces 47th Anniversary Gala Honorees
EBALDC proudly recognizes the following honorees at Together Again: EBALDC’s 47th Anniversary Gala Celebration!
The Healthy Neighborhoods Pillar Award Honorees
The Kresge Foundation’s support has transformed the way EBALDC thinks about arts, culture, and creativity – from “nice to have” to an essential component of community development. The application of arts and culture to strengthen our neighborhood collaborative partnerships, real estate projects, and resident service programs has been especially important during the pandemic and as we recover from it.
The Native American Health Center’s (NAHC) partnered with EBALDC to develop the Seven Directions Healthcare Facility which supports community medical and dental care clinics, as well as 36 affordable family homes in the Fruitvale neighborhood. Their deep community roots in providing services to the Bay Area Native population and under-served communities were essential to them becoming a leading provider of COVID testing services and vaccinations. As they celebrate their 50th Anniversary this year, EBALDC proudly transfers ownership of Seven Directions to NAHC.
Lynette Jung Lee Resident Leadership Award Honoree
James Brooks, a long-time resident of Avalon Senior Housing in Emeryville, was a member of EBALDC’s Resident Leadership Council and serves on the Avalon Tenants Advocate’s Steering Committee. As a resident and community leader, Mr. Brooks initiated an effort to rename Adeline Street Obama Boulevard and was active in the successful effort to install a pedestrian crosswalk across San Pablo Avenue for seniors to safely access the Emeryville’s commercial center. A jazz and blues singer, Mr. Brooks is known to serenade his fellow residents, encourage Avalon’s diverse community of Asian, Latinx, and Black residents to be fellow activists, and send greeting cards and visit residents who are sick.
To meet our honorees, join us Thursday, September 8th, 5:30pm at Together Again: EBALDC’s 47th Anniversary Gala Celebration!
