EBALDC’s Avalon Tenants Advocates (ATA) Amplify Community Needs Through its Newsletter and Local Organizing at EBALDC Senior Residence

For years, residents at EBALDC’s Avalon Senior Housing complex successfully advocated for themselves and their community, incorporating a newsletter publication into their efforts. How It All Began: Organizing for Traffic Safety Beth Esperanza Rosales, Avalon Senior Housing resident and Avalon Tenants Advocates co-founder says that the seniors there began speaking out on behalf of their community approximately 7 years ago: “We at Avalon started advocating…for a crosswalk right outside our gate. Lion Creek Crossings Mobility Hub: A Travel Connection Point!

On a recent sunny Saturday in February, over 100 Lion Creek Crossings (LCC) residents attended a Mobility Fair where they learned about ways to engage more in public transportation options. LCC in East Oakland is one of three Mobility Hub locations in the Bay Area. Mobility Hubs are community places that bring together public transit, bike share, car share, and other ways for people to get where they want to go. February Celebrations at EBALDC!

Throughout February, EBALDC residents and community members observed Black History Month and the Lunar New Year at celebrations across our EBALDC properties and local neighborhoods. Here are two highlights from the month’s celebrations: EBALDC Engages Community at the Lantern Festival. On a recent Sunday evening, EBALDC’s Creative Community Development (CCD) team participated in Oakland’s second annual Lantern Festival celebration.
