The Vital Work of Building Services During a Crisis

45 Stories for 45 Years

Contributor: Israel Terriquez, Property Supervisor, EBALDC

When I joined EBALDC’s property management team in 2008, we were right in the middle of the financial crisis. It was a difficult time for the organization, the residents that lived in our buildings, and all our communities.

As a property manager then, and now as a property supervisor trying to help our residents during the COVID-19 pandemic, I see a lot of similarities in terms of how our communities are reacting to these difficult times. People then were moving out of the city and even the state to move back in with family. And COVID-19 reminds of those days when people were just unable to afford anything extra.

I see similarities now, too, in EBALDC’s dedication to serving our residents and in turn, our communities. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, there were a lot of unknowns but EBALDC senior management was extremely thoughtful in terms of the impact of this and kept putting as much information out there as they could for building residents and for staff.

More than six months later, the work for EBALDC’s property management team has not stopped. We are busier than ever to make sure the residents needs are met during this difficult time. The work that my property management team does is so vital because we not only are trying to keep people housed, but we are trying to make sure that they have access to any and all of the services needed in their building, like making sure the boilers and the laundry machines are working. A building is like a living thing, it needs vital service.

Our core priorities haven’t stopped since COVID. One of the things that I really cherish about EBALDC is the compassion that guides all of our actions as an organization, because we know that the decisions and the things we do on a daily basis can not only impact the property itself but the community overall.

As EBALDC marks our 45th anniversary, we will be gathering more stories like this one from our friends, family, community members, partners and more stakeholders that have made our impact possible. We would be honored for you to join us:
