We will get through this, together.

March 2020

Dear EBALDC Friends and Family,

We hope that this message finds you healthy and well. The East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation (EBALDC) wants you to know that your support and partnership is and has always been vital to the residents and clientele that we serve. You are and have always been essential to our mission of building healthy neighborhoods for all. Thank you, many times over.

Because of your key role, we want to share information with you about how the regional shelter in place order across the six Bay Area Counties may affect our working relationship. Please keep in mind that this order will be in place until April 7, 2020 at earliest.

Under the shelter in place order, only essential businesses are allowed to operate until April 7th, 2020, or longer if the order is extended. Essential businesses include health care operationsbusinesses that provide food, shelter, and social services and other necessities of life for economically disadvantaged or otherwise needy individuals; fresh and non-perishable food retailers (including convenience stores); pharmacies; child care facilities; gas stations; banks; laundry businesses and services necessary for maintaining the safety, sanitation and essential operation of a residence.

To continue operating the portions of our businesses that meet the essential businesses criteria, EBALDC’s Executive Leadership Team has made the following decisions:

EBALDC staff will shift to working from home, except for essential services at the property sites and critical business functions at the main office on a very limited basis (Accounting, HR, Admin, IT/IS.) We remain reachable via email and through our office phone numbers.

For at least the next three weeks, the main office and property offices will be closed to all non-essential visitors and vendors. We will be checking mail only once a week, and our program sites and community rooms are also closed during the shelter in place order.

Adapting to issues that were unimaginable two weeks ago, we are doing our best to both continue our work and consider your feedback. As we have endeavored to do during natural disasters of all forms over the past 45 years, we will continue our essential work, and get through this, together.  Together, we are adjusting our work with residents and community members to ensure equitable access to the information, resources and opportunities necessary for healthy, vibrant neighborhoods.  Together, we are engaging with our funders and partners, in hopes of maintaining or expanding coverage of our vulnerable populations.  Together, we are looking to continue conversations and collaborations around how to move forward, best practices – and community – in mind.

Our families, and neighborhoods are healthier and stronger when we show up and represent one another in moments of joy as well as crisis. As our own health depends on the health of the person next to us, and the person next to them, we know these temporary measures will ensure a better outcome for all. Ensuring others can care for themselves is precisely how we take care of ourselves.

Again, thank you for all that you do for EBALDC. We look forward to the day we can all be together again.

In gratitude,

Joshua Simon, CEO
